Join the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of San Francisco Missions and Evangelism Ministry for a special presentation on Native American Heritage + Orthodox Christian Life, on Thursday, November 4, 2021 at 7:00 p.m. PDT. The discussion will feature Dr. Rebecca Hernandez, Director of the American Indian Resource Center at the University of California, Santa Cruz. Missions and Evangelism Director Thomaida Hudanish will facilitate this informative conversation about Rebecca’s journey to Orthodoxy 26 years ago, her work focused on the public representation of Native culture and lifeways, as well as American Indian art, and how we can grow in our understanding and ministry to Native Americans in our parishes.

Profile Rebecca Hernandez

Rebecca Hernandez, PhD

Rebecca Hernandez, PhD is Mescalero/Warm Springs Apache and Mexican American. She holds an MA in American Indian Studies from UCLA and PhD in American Studies from the University of New Mexico. Her academic work focuses on the public representation of Native culture and lifeways as well as American Indian art. She converted to Orthodoxy in 1995 and has written about the complexities intrinsic to Christian missions in what is now the United States.
