It is with sadness, yet with hope in the Resurrection, that the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of San Francisco announces the falling asleep in the Lord of Peter (Panayiotis) George Eliades, who reposed peacefully on September 2, 2026, at the age of 87.
Peter was a devoted Orthodox Christian, loving husband, father and grandfather, and a faithful servant of the Church. For many years, he and his family were active members of Nativity of Christ Greek Orthodox Church in Novato, where Peter served on the Parish Council, including as its president. After Peter and Marie moved to Dunlap, CA, the Monastery of the Theotokos the Life Giving Spring became their spiritual home and place of worship. Peter also became a devoted friend and supporter of Saint Nicholas Ranch and Retreat Center, serving for a time as a member of its Board of Directors. Living nearby, he always kept a watchful eye on the Ranch and readily offered his time, hard work, and support. His joyful spirit and willingness to help earned him the affection and respect of all who knew him.
“Peter's love for his faith and family was evident in the way he lived his life,” stated His Eminence Metropolitan Gerasimos of San Francisco. “He served faithfully throughout his life and was a true friend of the church, always ready to help and bringing his characteristic joy wherever he went. His greatest legacy can be seen in his family, in the faith he and Marie nurtured in their children, and in the many lives he touched through his friendship and service. We will miss him greatly.”
Peter is survived by his beloved wife, Marie; his daughter, Sister Makrina; his son George and his wife, Madeleine; his son Father Alexander and his wife, Presvytera Laura; and his beloved grandchildren, Maximos, Penelope, and Markella.
The funeral service is scheduled for Monday, September 7, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at the Monastery of the Theotokos the Life Giving Spring, Dunlap, CA. In lieu of flowers, donations in Peter’s memory can be sent to: Monastery of the Theotokos the Life Giving Spring, P.O. Box 349, Dunlap, CA 93621-0349.

Peter (Panayiotis) George Eliades passed away peacefully on September 2, 2026, at the age of 87, in Dunlap, California, with faith and hope in the Resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Even as his cancer progressed, he continued to live out his life with the zest and vitality that always characterized him. May his memory be eternal, and may his soul rest among the Saints.
Peter was born in Lowell, Massachusetts, in May 1939, the son of George Eliades, who came to America from Smyrna, and Hariclia Eliades. He grew up close alongside his brothers Chris and George and cousins, and played football at Lowell High School. He graduated from Harvard College in 1960, where he also played football, and from Boston University Law School in 1963. After passing the Massachusetts Bar, he was expected to join the family law practice. Instead, drawn to the stage, he set off for New York City, where he sang and played piano in bars and nightclubs throughout the city and appeared in an off-Broadway show. In 1967 he headed west to California, determined to become a star.
It was in Los Angeles that he picked up a book off a friend’s coffee table on the stock market - a moment he would later describe as one of those single instants that changes everything that follows. He entered the world of finance, and in December 1974 gained national renown when he called, almost to the day, the exact low of the market on KWHY, the nation's first full-time financial television station. That forecast led to the founding of his newsletter, Stockmarket Cycles, in 1975, and the start of a career as one of the country's most respected market analysts.
Over the decades that followed, Peter built a reputation as a pioneer in technical and cyclical stock market analysis. His timing calls earned him Timer Digest's “Timer of the Year” award in 1985, and in 2001 he received the Market Technicians Association's prestigious Charles H. Dow Award for excellence and creativity in Technical Analysis. He was a familiar voice on financial television for decades, appearing on FNN, CNBC, and Wall Street Week, and for many years as a guest of Neil Cavuto on Fox. His work was featured in Barron's, The Wall Street Journal, and Forbes, and cited in numerous books on technical analysis. He ran his own business for more than fifty years, working nearly every day and following the markets he loved and providing market updates to subscribers until just a couple weeks before his passing.
In 1988 Peter married Marie, and in 1991 the family moved to Sonoma County, California, where their three children were raised. Peter and Marie became devoted members of the community at Nativity of Christ Greek Orthodox Church in Novato, where Peter served for many years on the parish council, including as its president. His daughter Lia, is now a monastic in a Greek Orthodox monastery with her tonsured name, Makrina; George works in financial technology at Bloomberg in New York City; and Fr. Alexander is a priest at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Phoenix, Arizona.
In 2013, Peter and Marie moved to Dunlap, California to be near their daughter. Peter remained a pillar of the community – serving on the board of the St. Nicholas Ranch and entertaining any and all visitors with his piano and singing skills. Despite a near-death bout with Covid in late 2020 that had him in the hospital for 35 days, he made a nearly complete recovery (thanks to Marie’s super-human efforts) that left folks guessing based on his appearance he was 10-20 years younger than he was. While he was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer in 2024, he was singing, dancing and entertaining at his son George’s wedding party this past December before a rapid decline in his health this summer.
Peter is survived by his wife, Marie; Sister Makrina (Lia), his daughter; his son George and his wife, Madeleine; his son Fr. Alexander and his wife, Presbytera Laura, and three grandchildren, Maximos, Penelope, and Markella, whom he adored.
