Beloved in the Lord,
It is with great sadness, yet with hope in the Resurrection, that I share news of the passing of Archon Theofanis Economidis on November 29, 2025, at the age of 89.
For more than 35 years, Fanis served as a distinguished leader in the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of San Francisco, including 25 years as Vice President of the Metropolis Council. He was a cherished friend, trusted colleague, and valued mentor. His involvement extended beyond our Metropolis to the Archdiocese and Ecumenical Patriarchate, as well as affiliated organizations that supported the perpetuation of our faith and heritage. All those who knew and worked with
Fanis had tremendous respect and admiration for his dedicated service, strength, intelligence, integrity, and deep faith.
Fanis was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Cynthia (Efstathia), who reposed in 2014. He is survived by their daughter, Roberta (Hariklia), who cared for him with exceptional love and devotion, especially throughout his recent health challenges.
More information about Fanis’ remarkable life of faith and servant leadership, as well as funeral details, will be shared in the coming days.
May the Lord grant rest to the soul of His servant, Theofanis, in His Heavenly Kingdom, where the righteous repose and where he now dwells in the light of Christ.
May his memory be eternal!
With Love in Christ,
+ G E R A S I M O S
Metropolitan of San Francisco
