As a spiritual family, we have been joined in prayer throughout these recent days, praying for our Lord’s mercy to be upon all those traumatized by the recent earthquake in Haiti. I implore you to maintain consistent prayers as a first step towards healing for the millions affected, either directly or indirectly, by this tragedy. As responsible stewards of the grace that God has entrusted to us, I call upon each parish community of the Metropolis of San Francisco to cultivate this prayerful response into a response of tangible action. Over 100 priests and deacons joined four hierarchs for the first-ever west coast Pan-Orthodox Clergy Retreat on December 1 - 3, 2009 at St. Nicholas Ranch and Retreat Center in Dunlap, CA. During this Holy Season of Our Lord's Incarnation we are invited to join the Magi on their journey to Bethlehem of Judea where we will find the King of Heaven and Earth. These three Wise Men traveled with the guidance of one star from the heavens which illumined their road to the place where the Christ was born: "and lo, the star which they had seen in the East went before them, till it came to rest over the place where the Christ was" (Matthew 2:8-9). On May 9, 2004, an Icon of St Anne, the Mother of the Holy Virgin Mary, located in the Russian Orthodox Church of "Our Lady Joy of All Who Sorrow" in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA began to stream myrrh. On that Sunday one of the parishioners mentioned to the parish rector, Archimandrite Athanasy that the Icon of St. Anne seemed to be "perspiring." Upon further investigation, Fr. Athanasy noticed visible liquid streams and droplets. Accumulations of the liquid were seen on the cuff on St. Anne's left hand and on her left shoulder veil. Droplets were also found elsewhere on the Icon. Initially the myrrh looked like tear drops, as if St. Anne were crying. Later small, slow‐moving streams of myrrh appeared in other parts of the Icon.
